梅諾提 – 莫妮卡的圓舞曲 (選自歌劇”靈媒”)

曾有樂評家形容梅諾悌是一位「剛好也是音樂家的製作人」，因為他幾部被公認最成功的戲劇作品都不只是由他作詞作曲，也都是由他親自執導和設計的，其中，寫於1945年的歌劇《靈媒》就是一個很好的例子，此劇後來在百老匯上演達212次之多。劇情是描述一位芙蘿拉夫人 -- 一位靈媒，與女兒莫妮卡和啞巴僕人托比，在為人「表演」通靈的過程中，因為分不清現實與超自然世界的人事物，最後誤殺了愛著莫妮卡的托比。
在第二幕的開頭，在托比表演木偶劇給莫妮卡的過程中，莫妮卡了解到托比對她的愛，隨後便以這首詠唱調〈莫妮卡的圓舞曲〉作為回報。先是快樂純真的唱出自己的喜悅，隨後「幫」托比說出他想說的話，令人心碎，像是「一個人的愛的二重唱」。演唱者不只要有美麗的聲音，戲劇詮釋具挑戰性。
