伯恩斯坦 – 紙醉金迷 (選自歌劇”康迪德”)
Leonard Bernstein - Glitter and be Gay (from Candide)
西元1759年,法國哲學家伏爾泰(Voltaire)寫下一部小說《憨第德》,其主旨可說是他對於萊布尼茲(Gottfried Leibniz)所謂「凡事都是為了最好的目的而存在」的人生態度所作的諷刺。將近兩百年後,美國的作家海爾曼(Lillian Hellman)將伏爾泰的原著改寫成劇本,藉此在百老匯舞台上批判從麥卡錫主義甫退燒不久的美國社會,並請同樣持偏左立場的伯恩斯坦作曲。
這首詠嘆調《紙醉金迷》是劇中女主角Cunegonde在迷失了自己,在沉浸於物慾時所演唱;儘管聽來就如曲名那樣絢麗、活潑,事實上,不無一絲絲失意與自我解嘲的意味夾雜其中。先是以落寞的小調鋪陳,轉入明朗的大調後,節奏逐漸加快為急板,開始一段花腔詠唱,之後又轉由舞曲節奏主導,在悲傷與狂喜地交錯間,將歌曲推向高潮。這首也是全劇序曲之外,最精彩的曲子,同時更是花腔女高音的標準曲目之一。
